# Merge Duplicate Accounts

## Duplicate Accounts

Duplicate accounts can occur when CMS users accidentally register multiple times, such as creating one account through Sonoran and another through Discord.

To resolve this, community admins can merge the duplicate account into the primary account by migrating all associated data, then archive the duplicate account to prevent further use.

## Merging Duplicate Accounts

### 1. Select the Duplicate Account

In the user account menu, select the duplicate account. Then, select **Merge Account**.

### 2. Select and Merge Accounts

The **Source Account** will be automatically selected. This **Source Account** will be merged into the **Target Account**.

Select the **Target Account** and press **Merge Accounts**.

Once merged:

* All ranks, form submissions, and other data will be moved from the **Source Account** to the **Target Account**
* The **Source Account** will be archived (all ranks removed)
* For data integrity, all [security center logs](/cms/tutorials/administrative/security-center/logging-center.md) from the **Source Account** will still remain under the **Source Account**

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.sonoransoftware.com/cms/tutorials/user-management/merge-duplicate-accounts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
